Are you an orthotist/prosthetist looking to advance your skills in the management of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis?

SCOPe is excited to introduce this specialised course in the management of Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis according to the Sobernheim Technique.  The Sobernheim technique is a uniquely designed orthotic treatment plan used in combination with Katharina Schroth Phyiotherapy for scoliosis patients, incorporating the key aspects of the Schroth treatment techniques into the orthotic design system. The orthotic design is results in a modified cheneau style orthoses.

This course will equip participants with the theoretical and practical knowledge and skills to provide best practice orthotic management for patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, supported by industry experts.

This SCOPe course features five weeks of theoretical training, followed by 5 days onsite training where participants will design, fabricate, fit and evaluate a Sobernheim style orthosis.  Following the onsite workshop, expert trainers will work with participants for 3 months as they implement this in clinical practice.

What topics are covered?

Participants get hands-on clinical education and training on patient assessment, the full manufacturing process, fitting, follow up and outcome measures.

Focus of the subject-theoretical content:

  • Basics of Anatomy and Physiology
  • Classic diseases and indications
  • Classification and effects of spinal orthoses
  • Construction principles
  • Biomechanical principles and design of spinal orthoses
  • Supply examples for supportive, stabilizing and corrective orthoses

Focus of the practical seminar content:

  • Patient Anamnesis
  • Measurements and casting techniques
  • Cast rectification and modelling techniques
  • Production process
  • Fitting / testing of the brace and application of necessary corrections
  • Analysis and outcome measures

Online – activities are hosted by SCOPe learning platform
